✏️ Day 22: Achieve Your Goals with the QUARTERLY REVIEW

👋 Hey, Friends!

Welcome back to the 30-Day Productivity Challenge by the renowned YouTuber, former doctor, and now writer, Ali Abdaal.

Recap

Yesterday, we emphasized the significance of discipline and how choosing to be disciplined profoundly influences your destiny.

Today, let’s revisit the theme of reflection and delve into the quarterly review.

The Quarterly Review

Similar to the weekly review discussed earlier, the quarterly review requires a more substantial commitment—dedicating at least 1-2 hours. As we learned yesterday, this poses a challenge to your discipline. Can you muster the strength to carve out time for the quarterly review, and are you resilient enough to execute it?

Now, let's explore how to conduct a quarterly review with these five straightforward steps:

  1. 📆 Schedule it in your calendar. Open your calendar and navigate to March 31, 2024. Allocate a minimum of a two-hour block exclusively for the quarterly review. Scheduling time is the first step toward actual implementation.
  2. 🚀 Review your quarterly goals Based on the quarterly goals you set, ask yourself pertinent questions:
  3. 🌅 Think and adjust.
    1. Did I fulfill my quarterly goals?
      1. Yes: Was it easy or hard? How did it make me feel?
      2. No: What went wrong? What can I change to fulfill the goal in the next quarter?
    2. What felt good, and what didn’t?
    3. Did I aim too high or too low?
    4. How can I prioritize my goals more effectively?
    5. How do I adjust my ideal week accordingly?
  4. ⚙️ Rebuild your systems. Based on your achievements and setbacks, trace back your mistakes to the systems in place during the first quarter. Do you need to make changes?
  5. 🎯 Reflect on the now. Your life doesn’t solely focus on the past; it’s about the present. Ask yourself what you can do right now to enhance your progress for the next quarter, and then make plans accordingly. Life isn’t about dwelling on the past but recognizing opportunities that arise from your mistakes. Failure gives you the chance to be better, not worse!

Why Do the Quarterly Review?

The answer to this question lies in the general concept of reflection. Reflecting on who you are allows you to view yourself from a distance. Observe your current self and relate it to who you want to become.

See both versions of yourself, and you’ll understand how to evolve from your current self to a better you. Reflecting is about acknowledging mistakes as signs of improvement. Nobody is perfect, and that's a good thing. The true value and appreciation of life lie in becoming better than who you were yesterday.

The quarterly review offers an excellent way to reflect on long-term progress while still having the chance to adjust your system for the rest of the year. The key is to make time for it. Without giving reflection the space and time it needs, it will not help you as you intend.

Be disciplined. Reflect. Change who you are. Become your best through the quarterly review.

The only question is: Will you?

In conclusion, the quarterly review is not just a task; it’s a deliberate act of self-improvement. It's a structured pause in the hustle of everyday life to assess where you are, where you've been, and where you want to go. It’s a commitment to becoming better, one quarter at a time.

So, will you take the time, embrace the discipline, and elevate yourself through the power of reflection? The choice is yours.
